Washing Your Wrap

01

Hand Wash Is Best

Hand washing with automotive soap and a soft microfiber mitt is the safest method. Use a rinse, wash, rinse process. Avoid scrubbing aggressively on the same spot. Let the soap do the work. Dry with a clean microfiber towel or chamois.

02

Touchless Car Washes Are OK

Touchless automatic car washes that use only water and soap (no brushes or cloths) are acceptable. The high-pressure water will not damage the wrap if the wrap is properly installed and edges are heat-sealed.

03

Avoid Brush Car Washes

Automatic car washes with spinning brushes or cloth strips can catch wrap edges and lift them. Over time, brush washes scratch the vinyl surface and dull the finish. Avoid them entirely.

04

Pressure Washers Are Fine (With Care)

Keep the nozzle at least 12 inches from the surface. Use a wide fan pattern, not a pinpoint jet. Avoid spraying directly at wrap edges and seams. Water temperature should be below 180 degrees F.

Products to Use and Avoid

01

Use: Automotive Soap

Any standard automotive car wash soap works. Meguiar's Gold Class, Chemical Guys Citrus Wash, or similar. Dilute per instructions. Nothing special needed.

02

Use: Isopropyl Alcohol (for Spots)

For stubborn spots like tree sap, bug splatter, or tar, use isopropyl alcohol (70%) on a microfiber cloth. Dab, do not scrub. Rinse after. This is the safest spot cleaner for vinyl.

03

Avoid: Wax on Matte/Satin Finishes

Never apply wax or polish to matte or satin wraps. Wax fills the texture of the vinyl and turns matte areas glossy. This is irreversible without replacing the panel. Gloss wraps can be waxed.

04

Avoid: Harsh Solvents

Never use acetone, lacquer thinner, or abrasive compounds on vinyl wrap. These dissolve the vinyl and damage the print layer. If you are unsure about a product, test it on a hidden area first.

Utah-Specific Tips

01

Winter Road Salt

Utah roads are heavily salted in winter. Salt residue accelerates vinyl degradation if left on the surface. Wash your wrapped vehicle every 1-2 weeks during winter months to remove salt buildup, especially on lower panels and wheel wells.

02

Summer UV

Utah's elevation means more intense UV than coastal or low-elevation states. Park in shade when possible. Garage the vehicle overnight. UV is the single biggest factor in wrap color degradation. A garaged vehicle's wrap will last 1-2 years longer than one parked outside 24/7.

03

Temperature Swings

Utah's daily temperature swings (30-40 degree differences between morning and afternoon are common) cause vinyl to expand and contract. Premium vinyl from 3M and Avery Dennison is designed for this. Budget vinyl is not, which is another reason to use premium materials.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I wash my wrapped vehicle?

Every 1-2 weeks for daily drivers. Weekly during winter when road salt is present. More frequently if the vehicle is parked under trees where sap and bird droppings are common.

Can I use a pressure washer on a wrap?

Yes, but keep the nozzle 12+ inches from the surface, use a wide fan pattern, avoid spraying directly at edges, and keep water temperature below 180 degrees F.

Can I wax my vehicle wrap?

Gloss wraps can be waxed with a standard automotive wax. Matte and satin wraps should NEVER be waxed because it will change the finish to glossy. Use a matte-specific detailing spray instead.

How do I remove tree sap from a wrap?

Apply isopropyl alcohol (70%) to a microfiber cloth, dab the sap until it softens, and gently wipe away. Do not scrub. Rinse the area with water after. Remove sap within 24 hours if possible to prevent staining.

What do I do if my wrap gets scratched?

Minor surface scratches on gloss wraps can sometimes be buffed out with a vinyl-safe polish. Deeper scratches or cuts require the affected panel to be replaced. The advantage of a wrap is that you can replace one panel ($300-$500) rather than repainting the entire vehicle.
