How Much Does a Color Change Wrap Cost?

$3,000 – $5,000 for most vehicles

A full color change wrap in Utah costs $3,000 to $5,000 for most sedans and SUVs using premium 3M or Avery Dennison vinyl. That includes design consultation, surface preparation, professional installation, edge sealing, and a manufacturer warranty. Chrome and color-shift finishes cost more. Compact cars cost less. This page breaks down every factor so you know exactly what to expect before you call.

Color Change Wrap Cost by Vehicle

Vehicle size is the single biggest factor in color change wrap pricing. Larger vehicles need more vinyl and more labor hours. Here's what to expect for each category.

Sedan
Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, BMW 3 Series, Tesla Model 3
$2,800 – $4,000
SUV / Truck
Toyota 4Runner, Ford F-150, Jeep Wrangler, Chevy Tahoe
$3,500 – $5,000
Sports Car
Mustang, Camaro, Corvette, Porsche 911, Supra
$3,000 – $4,500
Luxury / Exotic
Mercedes S-Class, BMW M8, Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren
$4,500 – $7,000+

Sedans are the most straightforward and affordable to wrap because of their moderate surface area and relatively simple body lines. SUVs and trucks cost more purely because of size. A Ford F-150 has roughly 30% more surface area than a Honda Civic, which means more vinyl and more hours in the shop.

Sports cars often fall in the middle of the range. They're smaller than SUVs but have complex body curves, deep recesses, and aggressive styling that require more precision and more time. A Corvette's compound curves take longer to wrap than a Camry's flat panels.

Luxury and exotic vehicles are the most expensive because of their complex body shapes, the extra care required (these are $100K+ vehicles), and often the use of premium materials. We take extra precautions with paint preparation, use the highest grade vinyl, and allow additional time for quality control.

Color Change Wrap Cost by Finish

The vinyl finish you choose affects both material cost and installation difficulty. Here's how each finish impacts your total price.

Finish Price Range Notes
Gloss $3,000 – $4,500 Most affordable. Classic showroom shine. Widest color selection available.
Matte $3,000 – $4,500 Flat, non-reflective finish. Same price as gloss. Extremely popular for sport and luxury vehicles.
Satin $3,200 – $4,800 Between matte and gloss. Subtle sheen that catches light without a mirror finish. Slightly more expensive material.
Chrome $5,000 – $8,000+ Most expensive. Mirror-finish vinyl costs 2-3x more, shows every imperfection, hardest to install. Shorter 3-5 year lifespan.
Color Shift $4,000 – $6,000 Changes color depending on viewing angle. Premium material cost. Installation requires careful panel alignment so the shift reads consistently.

Gloss and matte are the most popular finishes and the most affordable because the vinyl is widely available and installs predictably. If you're looking for the best value on a color change, gloss or matte is where to start.

Satin has become increasingly popular in the last few years. It splits the difference between matte and gloss, giving you a premium, understated look that's especially striking on dark colors like charcoal, gunmetal, and midnight blue. Material costs run slightly higher than gloss or matte.

Chrome wraps are a different animal entirely. The vinyl itself costs 2 to 3 times more than standard vinyl. It's significantly harder to install because the mirror finish shows every fingerprint, wrinkle, bubble, and edge imperfection. Installation takes longer, waste rates are higher, and the finished product has a shorter lifespan of 3 to 5 years compared to 5 to 7 for other finishes. All of that adds up. If you want chrome, budget $5,000 minimum for a sedan and $7,000+ for larger vehicles.

Color-shift wraps (also called chameleon or flip wraps) change color depending on the angle you're looking at them. The material is premium-priced and installation requires careful alignment across panels so the color shift reads consistently across the whole vehicle. It's one of the most eye-catching finishes available and well worth the investment if you want a truly unique look.

Every Quote Includes

01

Design Consultation

We walk through your color and finish options with you, show you vinyl samples in person, and help you pick the exact look you're going for. No guesswork, no surprises.

02

Surface Preparation

Your vehicle is thoroughly cleaned, decontaminated, and prepped before any vinyl touches the surface. This includes removing any wax, sealant, or contaminants that could affect adhesion. Proper prep is the difference between a wrap that lasts 7 years and one that lifts in 6 months.

03

Premium Vinyl

We use 3M and Avery Dennison vinyl exclusively. These are the two best manufacturers in the industry. No Chinese knockoff vinyl, no budget material. Premium vinyl means better color consistency, easier installation, cleaner removal, and a longer warranty.

04

Professional Installation

Our installers wrap vehicles every day. Every panel is heat-formed to your vehicle's body lines, tucked into edges, and sealed. We don't cut corners and we don't rush. A color change wrap is only as good as the installation.

05

Edge Sealing

All edges are heat-sealed and post-heated to ensure adhesion on every curve, tuck, and edge. This prevents lifting and peeling and is one of the most common steps that budget shops skip.

06

Manufacturer Warranty

Every color change wrap we install comes with a 3M or Avery Dennison manufacturer warranty covering the vinyl against defects, fading, cracking, and peeling. We also stand behind our installation work.

07

Care Instructions

We send you home with specific care instructions for your finish type. How to wash it, what products to avoid, and how to maximize the lifespan of your wrap. Proper care is the easiest way to get the full 5 to 7 years out of your investment.

Why Color Change Wrap Prices Vary

01

Vehicle Size

The biggest price factor. A compact sedan uses roughly 50 to 60 feet of vinyl. A full-size truck or SUV uses 70 to 85 feet. More material and more labor hours means a higher price. This is why we quote by vehicle, not by square foot.

02

Finish Type

Standard gloss and matte vinyl are the most affordable. Satin costs slightly more. Chrome and color-shift vinyl cost 2 to 3 times more per foot and require more skilled labor to install. Your finish choice can swing the total price by $1,000 to $3,000+.

03

Body Complexity

Vehicles with deep recesses, aggressive body lines, wide fender flares, and complex curves take more time and more vinyl to wrap properly. A Tesla Model 3's clean body lines wrap faster than a Lamborghini Huracan's compound curves. More complexity means more labor and more material waste.

04

Design Elements

A straight single-color change is the most affordable option. Adding design elements like two-tone layouts, racing stripes, accent colors, or custom graphics adds design time and installation complexity. Most color change customers go with a single color, but custom designs are always an option.

05

Material Grade

We only use 3M and Avery Dennison, but within those brands there are different product lines. Premium cast vinyl (what we use for color changes) costs more than calendered vinyl (which is fine for fleet graphics but not suitable for color changes on curved surfaces). The material grade affects conformability, lifespan, and finished appearance.

Color Change Wrap vs Paint Job

The most common question we get: should I wrap or paint? Here's an honest side-by-side comparison.

Factor Vinyl Wrap Paint Job
Cost $3,000 – $5,000 $5,000 – $10,000+
Timeline 2 – 3 days 2 – 4 weeks
Reversible Yes. Remove anytime. No. Permanent.
Resale Value Preserved. Original paint untouched. Can decrease (non-factory color).
Finish Options Gloss, matte, satin, chrome, color-shift, textured Gloss standard. Matte/specialty costs extra.
Durability 5 – 7 years 10+ years
Paint Protection Yes. Vinyl protects factory paint. No. Replaces factory paint.

The bottom line: if you want a color change that's reversible, preserves your resale value, costs less, and gets done in days instead of weeks, a vinyl wrap is the better choice for most people. Paint wins on raw longevity (10+ years vs 5-7), but wraps can be replaced at the end of their lifespan for less than the original paint job would have cost.

The reversibility factor is what tips most people toward wrapping. With a wrap, you're not making a permanent decision. You can go back to your original color when you sell the vehicle, or you can change to a completely different color when the wrap reaches end of life. With paint, you're committed.

Color Change Wrap Questions

How much does a color change wrap cost in Utah?

A full color change wrap in Utah costs $3,000 to $5,000 for most sedans and SUVs. The exact price depends on vehicle size, vinyl finish (gloss, matte, satin, chrome, or color-shift), and design complexity. Chrome wraps are the most expensive at $5,000 to $8,000+ because of the difficulty of installation and the cost of the material.

Is a color change wrap cheaper than a paint job?

Yes. A quality paint color change costs $5,000 to $10,000+ and takes 2 to 4 weeks. A vinyl color change wrap costs $3,000 to $5,000 and takes 2 to 3 days. The wrap is also reversible, which means your original paint stays protected and your resale value is preserved. For most people, wrapping is the smarter financial decision.

How long does a color change wrap last?

A color change wrap using premium 3M or Avery Dennison vinyl lasts 5 to 7 years with proper care. Vehicles garaged overnight get the longest life. Utah's intense sun can reduce lifespan on vehicles parked outdoors daily, but the wrap still protects the original paint underneath for the entire duration. Chrome wraps have a shorter lifespan of 3 to 5 years.

Why are chrome wraps so expensive?

Chrome vinyl is the most expensive wrap material (2 to 3 times the cost of standard vinyl) and the hardest to install. It shows every imperfection, requires more careful surface preparation, takes longer to apply, and has a higher waste rate during installation. Chrome also has a shorter lifespan of 3 to 5 years compared to standard vinyl's 5 to 7 years. All of that adds up to a significantly higher price tag.

Can I wrap just part of my car a different color?

Yes. Partial color change wraps like roof wraps, hood wraps, mirror caps, and accent panels are popular and cost significantly less than a full color change. A roof wrap runs $400 to $800, and a hood wrap costs $300 to $600. These partial wraps are a great way to add a two-tone look without the full investment.

Does a color change wrap damage the original paint?

No. Premium vinyl wrap actually protects your car's factory paint from UV damage, rock chips, and minor scratches. When removed professionally after 5 to 7 years, the paint underneath is in the same condition as the day it was wrapped. This preserves resale value and gives you the freedom to change colors again or go back to the original factory finish.
